SIMSBURY BIKE CHALLENGE Kickoff

Join us at the Simsbury Historical Society on Sat., April 30 to kickoff the 2016 Simsbury Bike Challenge.  We will have rides, exhibits, giveaways, and fun.     Are you ready to Ride with Us in 2016? 

 

Simsbury Bike Challenge Kickoff – April 30 (rain date May 7) 9 AM – 2 PM

Simsbury Historical Society, 800 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury

  • 10 AM - 2 PM SBC welcome table,  giveaways, light refreshments

  • 10 AM -  4 PM -  Innovations in Pedal Power – Everyone Rides exhibit and other Innovation Fair exhibits

  • 1-2 PM “Parent and Child Ride as One” workshop on riding with very young children 

    • Parent and Child Ride as One” workshop with Sarah Hews Drop by anytime to learn everything you need to know to get started biking with your little ones from parents with extensive experience carting and towing their infants and toddlers. Take a look at the range of options including front and rear mounted child seats, bike trailers, and tag alongs. Learn about the weight ranges, how long the kids can use them, and the expense (new and used). We will also cover how to pick the best option for your family, what to consider when selecting a helmet, how to bike safely in town with kids, and how to overcome the mental hurdle to get started.

 

RIDES* *Ride participants are asked to sign up  at SIMSBURYBIKECHALLENGE@GMAIL.COM and to arrive 15 minutes early to sign waivers and go over the route, etc.   SPECIFY RIDE.

Option 1:   9-11:30 AM   B ride (15-17mph average)

37 miles, road route, some moderate climbs

 

Option 2: 9-11:30 AM C ride (13-15 mph average)

28 mile FCHT/Farmington River Trail loop route on the bike path.

 

Option 3:  10-11:00 AM casual ride, FCHT bike path out and back

 

All exhibits are free of charge.  Bike parking will be available on site.  Car parking will be available in the lots along Iron Horse Blvd.  Please note that there will be a large all-day flea market  at Simsbury Meadows  on April 30, so parking a car may be more difficult than usual.  We recommend you come by bike!

 

A few more volunteers are needed to help with the Kickoff event.  If you are available to co-lead a ride in the AM or help staff a table at the Historical Society for an hour in the AM or early PM, that would be most appreciated!  Contact John Lockwood at  lockwood.john@comcast.net to help with a ride or contact me at simsburybikechallenge@gmail.com  to help  at the tables.
