“Parent and Child Ride as One” workshop with Sarah Hews Drop by anytime to learn everything you need to know to get started biking with your little ones from parents with extensive experience carting and towing their infants and toddlers. Take a look at the range of options including front and rear mounted child seats, bike trailers, and tag alongs. Learn about the weight ranges, how long the kids can use them, and the expense (new and used). We will also cover how to pick the best option for your family, what to consider when selecting a helmet, how to bike safely in town with kids, and how to overcome the mental hurdle to get started.
Option 1: 9-11:30 AM B ride (15-17mph average)
37 miles, road route, some moderate climbs
Option 2: 9-11:30 AM C ride (13-15 mph average)
28 mile FCHT/Farmington River Trail loop route on the bike path.
Option 3: 10-11:00 AM casual ride, FCHT bike path out and back
All exhibits are free of charge. Bike parking will be available on site. Car parking will be available in the lots along Iron Horse Blvd. Please note that there will be a large all-day flea market at Simsbury Meadows on April 30, so parking a car may be more difficult than usual. We recommend you come by bike!
A few more volunteers are needed to help with the Kickoff event. If you are available to co-lead a ride in the AM or help staff a table at the Historical Society for an hour in the AM or early PM, that would be most appreciated! Contact John Lockwood at to help with a ride or contact me at to help at the tables.
